    Bringing Owenstown to life…

One of our major projects this year has been to co-ordinate all the communications for the proposed new town of Owenstown in South Lanarkshire. Apart from producing leaflets and brochures to outline the plans for the town of 20,000 people, we also created a DVD to explain the concept of the eco town which will be run on co-operative principles by the residents themselves. The Hometown Foundation, the charity behind the project, also commissioned us to handle all media aspects including the launch and public announcement of the proposals at the end of August.

That achieved comprehensive coverage from all the local and national press, BBC and commercial radio and both STV and BBC Scotland who broadcast live coverage on the day. BBC Scotland’s Newsnight programme featured a live debate that evening about the whole Owenstown concept and there has been continuing media coverage since the initial announcement.

Broadcasting Business director Alan Douglas is now the central contact for all media enquiries about Owenstown and he’s been handling calls and setting up interviews with Foundation trustees for media from all around the country….and beyond.

On-line training for pharmacists and counter assistants involved in stop smoking programme

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has commissioned The Broadcasting Business to develop an on-line training programme for 310 community pharmacies in the area who are involved in delivering the Smokefree services stop smoking programme.

The training programme is aimed at pharmacists and counter assistants and will complement existing face-to-face training.  It has been developed in four modules, can be accessed on-line via web pages and features an introduction by Director of Public Health, Linda de Caestacker. There is a series of scenarios filmed using actors and health professionals in the pharmacy setting, vox pops with clients who have used the service and the whole programme is backed up with impressive graphics and interactive quizzes.

Participants will learn about brief intervention techniques, behavioural change theories, motivational interviewing, facts on smoking, preparation to quit, withdrawal symptoms, NRT products, paperwork and how to carry out carbon monoxide testing.

    Breast Cancer Care Fashion show

The Broadcasting Business was delighted to support Breast Cancer Care’s 7th annual fashion show at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow.  The show, whose inspiring models have all had breast cancer, glowed, shimmied and strutted their stuff on the cat walk to rapturous applause from the audience.  Everyone who attended felt humble and proud to have had these fabulous men and women touch their lives.  The fashion show raised a staggering £145,000 for the charity.

    Marketing Society Conference

Director Alan Douglas hosted the 2009 Marketing Society’s annual conference in Edinburgh where Scottish Business figures who have left the country returned to share their stories of global marketing success.  Inspiring presentations by David Rennie, Managing Director of Nestle, Brian McBride, Managing Director of Amazon and Andy Mooney, Chairman of Disney Consumer Products set a positive tone for the conference before breakout sessions on ‘the Legacy of Homecoming Scotland’ led by Alan and Lisa Cohen provoked a lively debate.
